Number Four

The artist's vision

“I Create” is the number that, through matter, puts down solid roots. It is the number of concreteness and fulfilment — The Builder.

Technique

Mixed media using acrylic plaster, metals, natural stones, fabrics, acrylic - size 60 x 90

Artist

Elisa Aiassa is an Italian painter who transforms matter with an alchemical touch, creating works of art that reveal the beauty of metamorphosis. The number 3 is the leitmotif of her material and pictorial creations.

In Number Four, Elisa Aiassa takes the research of The Numbers Cycle towards a dimension of structure, stability, and concretisation. If the previous numbers open a space of origin, relationship, and synthesis, Four introduces the moment in which an idea finds a structure capable of supporting it and transforming it into reality.
The composition is dominated by a deeply materic white surface, built through layers, reliefs, and geometric forms that transform the canvas into a kind of visual architecture. At the centre emerges a large black circle, with an irregular and strongly tactile surface, while in the lower part the number 4, rendered in metal, assumes a distinct and monumental presence.
The relationship between these elements creates a tension between order and matter, solidity and depth, construction and origin. Four appears to take root within the surface of the work: it does not simply appear applied to the canvas, but becomes a structural element, almost like a pillar within the composition.
The predominance of white amplifies the presence of the textures and reliefs, allowing the material to emerge through the light and shadows generated across the surface. The dark disc, by contrast, introduces a point of visual concentration, a dense and contained presence that contrasts with the luminosity of the background.
The smaller elements positioned in the lower right of the work also contribute to this language of matter, symbol, and traces. The small container, the metal ring, and the artist’s signature almost become signs of a process of construction, fragments that bear witness to the transformation of matter into form.
Technique therefore plays a fundamental role in the meaning of the work. Plaster, acrylic, metal, natural stones, and textiles create a layered and three-dimensional surface, through which the canvas transcends its two-dimensional nature and once again approaches the dimension of sculpture.
In Number Four, creating means giving form, building, and making stable what previously belonged to the realm of possibility. Matter is not merely the medium through which the work takes shape: it is the very site of its realisation.
As in the other works of The Numbers Cycle, the number here becomes a symbolic code through which Elisa Aiassa explores the relationship between the invisible and the visible. Four represents the passage from idea to concrete manifestation: what originates within finally finds a structure in the world.
The Sound Dimension
Number Four is also accompanied by a musical component created by Elisa Aiassa in relation to the frequency associated with the number 4.
Sound introduces an immaterial dimension that enters into dialogue with the strong physical presence of the work. The solidity of matter is thus joined by the dimension of frequency, creating a relationship between form, matter, number, and sound.
Once again, the work becomes an experience that extends beyond visual perception, inviting us to consider the Number as a presence capable of manifesting itself through different forms of expression.
In Number Four, the idea takes root. Matter becomes structure, and structure becomes reality.
