Number Eight – I Can – The Sovereign
In Number Eight, Elisa Aiassa takes The Numbers Cycle towards a dimension of power, balance, and the capacity for realisation. Following the journey of exploration and knowledge represented by the preceding numbers, Eight marks the moment when acquired awareness is transformed into strength, responsibility, and the ability to act in the world.
The composition is built around two large overlapping circular forms, visually connected by the prominent number 8 at the centre. The structure immediately evokes the idea of continuity and balance: two circles meeting at a central point, creating a form with neither a true beginning nor an end. Eight thus becomes a figure of perpetual movement, in which forces continually meet and recombine.
The surfaces of the two circular forms are strongly materic, with golden and metallic tones. The upper section is crossed by golden metallic elements unfolding in sinuous lines, while a spiral appears on the right, providing a further reference to movement and continuity. These elements introduce a dynamic dimension within an otherwise stable composition.
The number 8, positioned at the centre, assumes a monumental presence. Its position between the two circles appears to connect the two polarities of the composition, becoming the point through which balance is maintained. Eight is therefore not simply a numerical sign, but becomes the very structure of the work.
The white and pale blue background, marked by folds, reliefs, and layers, creates an almost atmospheric materic field. Within it, small symbolic elements — stones, metal, a ring, and a small container — enrich the surface and contribute to the perception of the work as an accumulation of traces and presences.
Gold assumes particular importance within the composition. Its luminosity introduces a dimension of value and strength, while the metal suggests structure and solidity. Matter thus becomes the space in which the power evoked by Eight can manifest itself in concrete form.
In Number Eight, I Can expresses an awareness of one’s own capacity to act, create, and transform. Power is not understood solely as dominance, but as possibility, responsibility, and the ability to shape one’s own reality.
The archetypal figure of The Sovereign represents the culmination of this journey: one who has acquired knowledge, experience, and awareness and is now called upon to govern their energies with balance. The Sovereign is not simply one who possesses power, but one who knows how to exercise it responsibly. The term sovereign carries precisely this sense of supreme authority or rulership. dictionary.cambridge.org
Eight is the number of balance and power. It is awareness becoming ability, strength becoming responsibility. It is the Sovereign.
