Number 33

Technique

Mixed media using plaster, acrylic, natural stones, LED lights, and metal — diameter 100 cm.

Artist

Elisa Aiassa is an Italian artist who transforms matter with an alchemical touch, creating works of art that reveal the beauty of metamorphosis. The number 3 is the leitmotif of her material and pictorial creations.

Master Number 33, within Elisa Aiassa’s The Numerical Alphabet of Existence, introduces a dimension of elevation, awareness, and inner transformation. While 22 represents the ability to materialise a vision and give it concrete form, 33 opens up a further level of exploration: one in which creation becomes a means of growth, knowledge, and connection with a broader dimension of existence.

The artwork is built around a large circular form with a richly textured white surface. At its centre, the number 33 emerges in metal, while the composition unfolds through folds of fabric, raised textures, and numerous circular elements distributed on either side of the central core. The overall structure suggests an organic form, almost like an opening extending both inwards and outwards, as though matter were holding within it a process of transformation.

The two lateral areas, composed of natural stones and fragments of matter, create an irregular and vibrant texture. The circular elements evoke nuclei, presences, and points of energy that seem to emerge from the surface, while the folds of fabric guide the viewer’s gaze towards the centre of the work. The number 33 thus occupies the point where the different components meet, assuming the role of both symbolic and visual focal point.

The dominant white lends the composition a luminous and contemplative quality. Variations in the surface, the shadows created by the raised textures, and the different qualities of the matter prevent the background from appearing uniform. Light continually reveals new details, transforming the artwork into a perceptual field in which every element contributes to the construction of meaning.

In the illuminated version, LED light runs vertically through the composition, activating the matter from within. The beam of light appears to open a threshold within the body of the work, revealing a force that remains latent in the unilluminated version. Light is not merely a technical element, but becomes part of the expressive language: it suggests transition, awakening, and the possibility of moving beyond the visible surface.

The title “I Elevate” expresses the symbolic movement of 33: to elevate means to expand one’s awareness, transform experience into understanding, and direct knowledge towards a deeper dimension. This does not mean abandoning matter, but recognising that something transcending it can emerge precisely through it. The spiritual dimension is therefore not opposed to the tangible world, but takes shape through the relationship between body, perception, and consciousness.

The archetypal figure of The Master represents this maturation. The Master is not simply one who possesses knowledge, but one who can transform what has been understood into an opportunity for growth for others as well. The Master does not impose a definitive truth: instead, they open up perspectives, accompany the search, and invite others to recognise a broader meaning within individual experience.

Through the use of plaster, acrylic, natural stones, metals, and LED lighting, the mixed-media technique creates a three-dimensional surface in which matter and light participate in the same expressive process. The layers embody the complexity of the inner journey, while light introduces an immaterial dimension that permeates and transforms the physical presence of the artwork.

Like the other Master Numbers, 33 forms part of Elisa Aiassa’s multisensory research, in which matter enters into dialogue with sound and olfactory essences. The music, interpreted and recorded by Trio Armonie di Gran Classe, is not simply an accompaniment, but an autonomous language that encounters the visual and materic language of the artwork, contributing to a broader perceptual experience. It is through this encounter that the artist seeks a form of catalysis: an experience capable of moving beyond simple observation and activating inner reflection.

In Master Number 33, to elevate means to transform knowledge into awareness, and awareness into the possibility of sharing. It is the passage from individual growth to a presence capable of illuminating the path of others.

33 is knowledge becoming wisdom. It is awareness opening up, light moving through matter. It is The Master.
