Number One

The artist's vision

“I Am” is the number that embodies new ideas; it is the seed from which the plant grows. One is the beginning. The Warrior.
— Elisa Aiassa

Artist

Elisa Aiassa is an Italian painter who transforms matter with an alchemical touch, creating works of art that reveal the beauty of metamorphosis. The number 3 is the leitmotif of her material and pictorial creations.

Technique

Mixed media using acrylic plaster, metals, natural stones, fabrics, acrylic - size 60 x 90

Year

2026

“Number One” opens with an essential and radical statement: I am. In Elisa Aiassa’s symbolic universe, One represents origin, the first gesture, the untouched possibility from which every transformation can emerge. It is the seed that contains within itself the potential of the plant, the first idea that becomes matter, the starting point of a journey of growth and affirmation.
At the centre of the composition, the black human figure, depicted in profile and standing upright, assumes the archetypal presence of the Warrior. Its silhouette, essential and devoid of detail, does not identify a specific individual, but becomes a universal figure: the human being who becomes conscious of themselves, their identity, and their direction.
Behind the figure, the textured circle evokes unity, totality, and the cycle, while the figure of One passes through it as a presence capable of transforming origin into movement. The large number 1, integrated into the composition, reinforces this declaration of identity and presence.
Matter becomes an integral part of the narrative. Plaster, acrylic, natural stones, metal, and textiles create a layered, almost sculptural surface from which the figure appears to emerge. The stones evoke a connection with the earth and primordial matter; the metal suggests strength, structure, and determination, while the different textures make the process of transformation visible.
Sound Dimension
Elisa Aiassa’s Numbers Cycle does not end with the visual dimension. Each work is accompanied by a musical component conceived by the artist in relation to the frequency associated with the number.
For the first nine Numbers, Elisa personally created the music based on the frequency of each number, introducing an additional perceptual layer through which the numerical symbol is translated into sound. The series thus becomes a multisensory experience in which matter, form, number, and frequency enter into dialogue.
For Number One, entitled “I Am”, the sound component accompanies the themes of origin and the affirmation of identity, adding an immaterial and perceptual dimension to the physical presence of the work. Music thus becomes a kind of invisible extension of matter: what the eye perceives on the canvas finds a correspondence in listening.
In Number One, therefore, One is identity, potential, and courage. It is the moment when an idea takes shape and the individual, like a warrior, chooses to move forward. The canvas becomes the place where matter and symbol meet, while music opens an additional perceptual space: that of the invisible, frequency, and energy.
One is not simply the first number. It is the beginning. It is the moment when everything begins.
