“New Moon” by Elisa Aiassa is a textured artwork that opens a space for deep contemplation, where sensory experience and symbolic meaning converge. Part of the artist’s lunar series, this circular canvas captures the essence of the new lunar phase — a moment of potential, quiet and renewal.

The surface, dominated by rich deep tones and subtle chromatic shifts, is constructed through the use of plaster, sand and acrylic, giving the work a tactile, almost topographical presence. The sand and plaster evoke an elemental landscape, while the interaction of colours suggests the nocturnal sky before dawn. Subtle metal accents add points of light that call to mind unseen energies — prompting reflection on what lies beyond immediate perception.

“My artistic research is oriented toward the element of the Moon as a symbol of a profound connection between universe, energy and balance,” Aiassa explains. In this vision, the Moon is not just a celestial body, but a feminine, cyclical, intuitive and generative principle — a reflection of the relationship between microcosm and macrocosm, matter and spirit.

The New Moon represents an invitation to stillness, introspection and inner listening: a stage in the lunar cycle where light is not yet visible, yet is quietly emerging. Here, the artwork becomes a metaphor for new beginnings — potential not yet manifested but in constant motion.

Through her layered use of natural materials, Aiassa encourages the viewer to look beyond the visible: an invitation to perceive the silent energy that animates all things. “New Moon” becomes more than a representation of a lunar phase — it is a poetic exploration of life’s rhythms, the balance of light and shadow, and the interconnectedness of humanity and the infinite.
